Campus Life

University main campusHALOmem is part of the Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg. It is located at the “Technologiepark Weinberg Campus” in Halle (Saale), which is shared by academic institutions and biotech companies. The campus hosts the university departments of agricultural sciences, mathematics, informatics, geography, pharmacology, biology, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology and the medical school.

Technology Park Weinberg CampusThe “Technologiepark Weinberg Campus” also offers space for biotech startup companies that transform academic knowledge into commercial applications. Together with the university, scientific institutions belonging to the Max-Planck Society, the Leibniz Association and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft form a scientific community with many active collaborations.

The river SaaleLocated on the river Saale, Halle offers a great surrounding for recreational activities like biking, walking and boating. Halle is the major city of southern Saxony-Anhalt, located close to Leipzig (45 km) and not far from Berlin (180 km). The city´s impressive history of more than 800 years is visible in its architecture (Burg Giebichenstein, Moritzburg) and serves as a basis for a strong cultural background.

DowntownAn opera house, theaters, art galleries, a music hall, and the Händel museum are located here and offer a variety of cultural events (Veranstaltungskalender). Life in Halle, a town of about 230,000 inhabitants, is strongly influenced by the 18,000 students of the Martin-Luther-University. Student housing, restaurants, pubs, sport clubs, cinemas and alternative shops are distributed all over the town, creating a lively college town atmosphere.
